Mom Was Right… Clean Your Room!

When you were little, you thought you were pretty slick when your mom asked you to clean your room, and you would simply relocate the mess from your floors to underneath the bed, or in the closet. As long as you couldn’t see it, your room was clean… right?

Maybe you were unlucky enough to have a parent that actually checked under your bed, and in your closet. Or maybe you were able to get away with this trickery for so many wonderful years of your life. But now that you are in college, it’s up to you to clean your room. Did you know that your grades depend on it?

Seriously, a Clean Room Can Improve Your Grades!

Consider the contrary… attempting to study in a messy room. When you are surrounded by clutter, there are too many distractions, and it is extremely challenging to give your full and undivided attention to school work.

It doesn’t matter if there are chip crumbs on the desk, or empty soda cans scattered across the floor. A mess is a mess, and it is much better to do away with that mess properly, so when it’s time to crack those books you’ll have a clear space and a clear mind to do it with.

Keeping a Small Dorm Room Organized

If there’s one thing that can create a mess, it’s stuff. And if there’s one thing a college student can’t wait to get for their dorm room, it’s stuff. No wonder a stereotypical dorm room resembles the aftermath of a natural disaster. It’s okay to have a few “cool things” to decorate with here and there, but it’s important to focus on the amount of space available and to take into consideration where you can store your most important items.

It’s always a good idea to decorate your dorm room in such a way that expresses your personality. This is your college dorm room! But most rooms are big enough for the basics, and lack the space for artistic expression through “useless stuff.”  To compromise, try to choose items that serve a double purpose. Decorative storage bins, for example, can easily be decorated or chosen in favorite colors for a customized room without the disorganized mess.
