The Nation Council for Minorities on Engineering, or NACME is an organization dedicated to getting more young minority students involved in the field of engineering. One of the many ways this organization goes about this is through providing scholarships to deserving minority students who are pursuing an education in engineering.

More about the NACME

The NACME recognizes that minority students are part of a valuable resource pool for the country to obtain future individuals to be a part of the important engineering and technological workforce. This why they provide several programs and activities for minorities from the middle school level through workforce entry which encourage and support the efforts of minorities who are interested in taking on a career in engineering.

The Newest NACME Scholarship Program

The NACME recently began a new scholarship program called the At-Large Scholars program. This particular scholarship program awards scholarships support to minority engineering students who are attending universities which are not currently partners with the NACME. The decision to offer this scholarship was to further the efforts of the NACME to help increaser the number of minority engineers in the workforce nationwide.

The At-Large Scholarship is a competitive based scholarship. Students competing for the scholarship are judged upon their academic achievement, their community involvement, evidence of leadership ability, and their financial need. The amounts of the At-Large Scholarship are awarded in the amounts of $2,500, $3,000, to $4,000. A student’s GPA is the biggest factor in determining the amount of the scholarship to be awarded to the winners.
